Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed exactly why he signed Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona. Chelsea signed the 27-year-old after Arsenal dismissed the chance to sign him back on a buy-back clause that was in his contract at Barcelona.
Mourinho took the chance and offered Fabregas to return to the Premier League, but this time with a different club. Chelsea payed £27 million for the Spaniards services and The Blues boss believes Fabregas is exactly the player to lead Chelsea to Premier League glory next season.
"He is the kind of player we [Chelsea] need," Mourinho said. "Not just for his qualities as a player but also his competitive personality. "He is a player in the best years of his career – 26, 27, 28. He knows England well, he knows the Premiership well, so he will not need time to adapt. "I think he is the kind of player who will come and train for a couple of weeks and be ready to prove himself."
