Jose Mourinho has stated that no strikers will be arriving for the club
this January despite the criticism falling upon Chelsea's attacking line
this season.
The Blues manager has put his faith in the talent
of Fernando Torres, who recently scored in back-to-back Premier League
games for the first time since October 2012.
The Portuguese
said that Torres should not worry, according to the Daily Star's Gary
Jones, following Chelsea's 2-0 win over Hull City:
Fernando is
calm. He knows we are not going into the market now. In the summer,
normally a club like Chelsea is always trying to improve and get new
players but he knows that we like him and support him and he knows there
is no problem.
Everyone needs strikers to score goals; the
strikers are the goalscorers. If you have players in other positions who
can score an important number of goals - better.
If you have a
Frank Lampard - better. If you have Eden Hazard - better. But the
strikers are the ones that normally score the goals.
Mourinho's
comments would suggest that Chelsea will not bring in Wayne Rooney or
any other attacking figures to Stamford Bridge this winter.
