Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is becoming increasingly desperate to land
a top-level striker, and has identified Napoli's Gonzalo Higuain as a
potential January signing, according to A Bola.
Argentina
international Higuain, who worked under Mourinho at Real Madrid, was
strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer. However, Napoli
pipped the Gunners to his signature after offering a more lucrative
package.
The 26-year-old cost Napoli a reported £34.5m fee -
and Chelsea would need to offer considerably more money in order to
tempt the Serie A side into selling the prolific striker, who has netted
12 goals in 20 appearances this season.
Mourinho's own
strikers have struggled this season. Fernando Torres has scored two
goals in 12 Premier League matches; Demba Ba has bagged just one from
eight, while summer-signing Samuel Eto'o has netted two goals in nine
games.
Chelsea also have Romelu Lukaku on their books, but the
Belgium international - who has scored eight league goals from 12 games
this season - is on loan at Everton for the rest of the campaign.
